LONDON — If you’re planning a visit to Hogwarts in the near future, you’ll want to stop by the campus library to pick up a copy of Newton Scamander’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” If not, well, you should at least check out the first full trailer for the movie based on the famous text book.

Set some 70 years before the adventures of Harry Potter, the film stars Academy Award Winner Eddie Redmayne and DC speedster Ezra Miller.

According to WarnerBrothers.com:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident … were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”

This latest trailer ties itself to the popular Potter movies by including John Williams‘ familiar theme and mentioning the legendary Albus Dumbledore, but also promises a new cast of characters enjoying original adventures against a very different backdrop.

If the trailer is to be trusted, it looks as if casual Potter fans will be able to enjoy “Fantastic Beasts” without prerequisite reading or movie viewing, while die-hard fans can look forward to the actualization of one of Potter’s more obscure references.

“Fantastic Beasts” marks Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling’s, debut as a screenwriter and is based on her 2001 book by the same name.
